For this highly coveted position, we are looking for a Seattle-based leader who is ready to drive corporate storytelling through the lens of brand and ceo voice. This role serves to develop and advance our ceo, financial and corporate narratives. Are you experienced in narrative development? Do you have proven top-tier media relations skills? How You'll Make an Impact
As a director, you’ll partner with your Public Affairs colleagues, executives, and key stakeholders across the company to develop and execute the company’s corporate, financial and ceo communications platforms. Your work will:
- Build confidence and trust in our ceo with key stakeholder groups while advancing our reputation and brand;
- Create clarity, confidence and connection between our corporate and global brand communications strategies;
- Equip our ceo for highly visible stakeholder engagements, including speaking engagements, board of director meetings, media engagements and Earnings calls.
- Advance our company culture through listening, inclusion, transparency, empathy and action
How that Comes to Life
- Listening and engaging with speed and curiosity to define clear goals and outcomes;
- Crafting proactive narratives to articulate ceo platform, financial and corporate strategies, and preparing reactive situation with key stakeholders;
- Daily engagement for effective top tier media relations and earned media coverage for the ceo and business
- Developing and executing external engagement strategies to advance our ceo’s thought leadership agenda- includes media relations, financial/investor communications, stakeholders and partner engagements—in close partnership with business unit and PA audience and channel strategy leaders.
- Writing short and long form with a lens on humanity for ceo (speeches, video scripts, letters, social posts);
- Empowering and encouraging a small, but impactful team of partners to help build and effectively execute communications plans in service of our leadership agenda;
- Forming strong, collaborative relationships with key leaders and support partners across the company to inform, develop and implement communications strategies that support our leaders’ top priorities.
- Demonstrating in-depth knowledge of media and investor landscape as it relates to the brand and competitor set;
- Apply forward thinking and research skills to shape communications that are most relevant for key stakeholder groups;
- Embodying Starbucks values and ensuring they're reflected in all of our communications
What You’ll Need:

- Proven ability to establish trusted relationships at all levels of the organization
- Stellar written and verbal communication skills – particularly the ability to decode corporate speak and write clear and persuasive “human” content that engages a wide range of stakeholders. (Please submit various writing samples with your application.)
- Desire to take initiative in leading projects and presenting new perspectives.
- A solid grasp of narrative, awareness of audiences, exceptional attention to detail, and are a forward-thinking team player who works collaboratively.
- Demonstrated people management experience.
Summary of Experience
- Corporate communications leadership, preferably seasoned in external communications at a multi-unit retailer and/or an agency (10+ years)
- Developing, leading and managing teams (5+ years)
- Demonstrated ability to apply general business knowledge and experience in a complex, fast-paced global environment
- Demonstrated ability to develop and lead execution of effective communication programs (internal and external) across the enterprise
- Effective budget and strong presentation skills
- Ability to interact effectively and confidently with senior management and all levels of the organization
- Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, agencies and partners across the organization
- Ability to work in a team and influence others
