What started as a small group of families gathered around a kitchen table in 1979 has blossomed into the nation’s leading voice on mental health. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness.
Today, we are an alliance of hundreds of local affiliates, state organizations and a national office that work in communities across the United States to raise awareness and provide support and education that was not previously available to those in need. NAMI advocates for all who are affected by mental illness, both the individuals and the people in their lives. We work to address disparities and injustices and to promote dignity and inclusion for all people with mental illness and their families. In addition to being advocates, we educate, we listen, and we lead as evidenced by our public awareness campaigns, the range of programs we provide, and our strong public policy.
We currently have an opening for a National Director, NAMI Programs & Training. The National Director provides oversight, integration and strategic leadership in the support, development and expansion of NAMI National Signature Programs and Training. This position works closely with the Chief Program Officer to develop, implement, manage, evaluate and ensure that all National Signature Programs incorporate the latest information, research, resources, and culturally relevant content while remaining true to NAMI’s mission to provide peer led programming. The National Director is also responsible for proactively planning and implementing strategies to help enhance NAMI’s visibility and credibility as a national leader in mental illness education and support.
This full-time position may be off-site or based in Arlington VA on a hybrid basis.
Salary Range: $115k - $120k
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop strategies for bringing innovation and improvement to national signature programs, including the train the trainer model.
- Strategically plans and directs the review and updating of content of existing national programs to reflect current science and best practices
- Works closely with Chief Program Officer to implement NAMI’s strategic plan as it relates to national programs
- Serves as a member of the leadership team for grant funded work led by the Programs department, including serving as DRI when appropriate
- Engages with field leaders through targeted technical assistance to assess program access, effectiveness and cultural relevance while overseeing the improvements to existing programs and supporting resources.
- Works closely with Chief Program Officer to manage the budget for NAMI Programs.
- Develop and deliver presentations, speeches and workshops for stakeholders, funders, conferences, and NAMI state events.
- Work closely with stakeholders to ensure programs are consistently being promoted and support best practices and standards in the field.
- Works with external partners on innovative uptake of NAMI Programs.
- Assess program data to provide direct support to field leaders.
- Manage day-to-day relationships, resources, communications and products to ensure quality and timely operations.
- Creates reports and develops processes, guides, and protocols to assist NAMI Field leaders with the implementation of programs and resources in their communities.
- Develop and deliver programming for the NAMI national convention.
- Serves in the Chief Program Officer’s absence as necessary.
- With guidance from Chief Program Officer, oversees program team hiring, admin, and supervisory responsibilities
- Assist with cultivating and strengthening strategic partnerships.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in a related field
- 10+ years’ relevant experience with program administration or similar responsibilities
- Experience with NAMI national signature programs preferred
- Experience in curriculum and training development
- Experience with trauma informed care, adult learning principles and blended learning strategies
- In-depth knowledge of mental health education and support
- Ability to work within teams in collaborating, planning and implementing program objectives
- Demonstrated ability as a strategic thinker
- Strong organizational skills and detailed oriented
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong project management skills
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to collaborate with a diverse staff and member population
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Comfortable learning new technology.
- Must pass background check
