Position Summary
We are currently seeking a passionate and dedicated DOPE Project Manager to join our team and make a significant impact on addressing drug-related harms in San Francisco communities. As the DOPE Project Manager, you will play a crucial role in ensuring low-barrier access to naloxone for individuals most affected by overdose and those in hard-to-reach populations. Additionally, you will lead efforts to train frontline service workers, community-based organizations, grassroots groups, and individuals likely to witness and respond to overdose emergencies.
Essential Functions
- Provide outreach and coordinate technical assistance and resources to San Francisco SSPs, service providers, and community organizations and individuals to build alignment with overdose prevention efforts and harm reduction best practices, including access to naloxone and training, organizational development and resources, overcoming community opposition to harm reduction practice, development of strategies for serving communities most impacted by overdose, the War on Drugs, and state violence (particularly Black, Latino/x (including immigrants and Spanish speakers), Indigenous, and other people of color); and other ongoing training needs throughout the city.
- Plan, implement, and manage training on overdose prevention, harm reduction and its intersection with social justice issues, Train-the-Trainer sessions, and other offerings through a healing justice lens for San Francisco syringe access programs, service providers, and community leaders and organizers in English and Spanish. Incorporate feedback from participants and collaborate with the San Francisco Department of Public Health and National Harm Reduction Coalition staff to assess needs, plan topics, design curricula and/or coordinate with external trainers as needed.
- Coach and supervise DOPE Project Capacity Building and Logistics Coordinator in the submission and coordination of data, coordination of naloxone ordering and distribution, and inventory management, and supervise DOPE Delivery Associate to assure naloxone delivery to partner sites and other collaborators. Supervise and coach the SF Capacity Building & Training Institute Coordinator in all HRTI and DOPE training offerings, facilitation, and curriculum development.
- Apply and expand a racial justice and healing lens to harm reduction and center the voices of people with lived experiences of drug use, HIV, hepatitis C, overdose, homelessness, incarceration, and sex work in all work. Identify strategies and opportunities to increase leadership and meaningful, dignified involvement of people who use drugs and uplift leadership of color in programs and advocacy initiatives.
- Participate in and support virtual convenings, and future in-person events such as National Harm Reduction Conference and California-specific conferences, as requested.
- Create, review and revise materials and curricula.
- Attend events and conferences, and other research-related activities that inform and improve National Harm Reduction Coalition’s overall capacity building.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Capacity Building and Community Mobilization.
Core Competencies and Perspective
- Advanced understanding of Harm Reduction.
- Ability to prioritize coaching, team building and nurturing staff and community members to become overdose prevention leaders.
- Understand overall drivers of overdose (poverty, race inequities, houselessness, and lack of appropriate healthcare access).
- Ability to focus on community outreach, training and naloxone delivery while collaborating with other city partners implementing overdose prevention work in San Francisco.
Required Education and Experience
- 3-5 years of experience in management and/or coordination of programs or projects, within nonprofits, harm reduction programs and/or capacity-building organizations.
- Written and verbal fluency in English
- Experience supervising, coaching, and developing staff and multicultural/multiracial teams.
- Harm reduction and direct overdose prevention and response work-related experience
- Experience providing harm reduction technical assistance and training to include but not limited to community partners, health officials, and PWUDs.
- Deep knowledge of harm reduction philosophy and application, drug user health, and issues faced by communities most impacted by the racialized war on drugs, homelessness, and overdose, ideally in San Francisco.
- Experience working with/connection to people who use drugs, Black, Indigenous, Latine/Latinx (including immigrants and Spanish speakers), other people of color, and underserved populations, such as unhoused communities and people living in SROs.
Preferred education and experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field, such as public health, social work, or nonprofit management.
- Bilingual- English and Spanish
Supervisory Responsibilities - This position will supervise: DOPE Capacity Building and Logistics Coordinator, DOPE Project Capacity Building and Training Coordinator; DOPE Delivery Associate.
Work Environment - The work environment is typical of an office setting.
Physical Demands - Sedentary work. Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer monitor/screen; extensive reading. Sitting, Walking, Standing, Computer Use, Driving, Lifting up to (25lbs).
Travel Required - Heavy local travel is required (at least 2-3 times a week) and designated travel for conferences.
