Overview:

AlJazeera.com is looking for an experienced Political Editor in Washington, DC. The selected candidate will join our award-winning digital team as we head toward the US elections, deepening our focus on US politics and policy across all online platforms.

The Ideal Person:

You have at least seven years of experience editing and filing high-quality content for online platforms, including news stories, live page posts and analyses. You have experience covering Congress and past US elections. You have a keen eye for detail and strong news judgment. You enjoy breaking news, writing clear, concise copy and analysing key developments. You can take complex information and turn it into compelling content. You understand what makes Al Jazeera's reporting stand out and subscribe to its mandate to cover US politics from a global perspective.

Skills:

• Experienced editor and writer of news and analyses
• In-depth knowledge of US politics, and a demonstrable network of sources
• Ability to bring authority and clarity to telling complex stories, and to do so with digital savvy
• Outstanding language skills, demonstrating precision and fluency in spoken and written English
• Experience of political reporting and covering US presidential campaigns and elections
• Highly organised and a strong team player
• Demonstrates an approach to work that is characterised by commitment, motivation and energy

Job Description:

• Plans, commissions and edits news, analyses, features and live pages, quickly and comprehensively
• Works closely with Al Jazeera’s head office in Doha and the team in the US to plan and implement news coverage
• Deals quickly and efficiently with big news events as they unfold
• Provides ideas for news coverage daily and produces off-diary content
