Development and Marketing Associate
Reports To: Senior Director, Development and Marketing
Base pay range: $50,000/yr - $55,000/yr
The Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington (POB) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving and preserving sight by providing services, education, advocacy, and innovation. The Development and Communications Associate will support POB's advancement efforts.
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Craft all proposals directed to institutional funders (government agencies, corporate foundations, private foundations)
- Research and qualify new funding opportunities using a variety of research methods
- Work with program staff and leadership team to gather information for grant submission
- Work with each funding agency to remain updated on future deadlines
- Establish deadlines and workload responsibilities in conjunction with the leadership team
- Proofread/fact check all documents for accuracy and cohesive organizational message
- Assemble completed grant packet for delivery to the funding agency
- Compile and maintain files of completed applications and reports in a web-based database
- Manage grant and foundation stewardship through strong communication and follow-up
- Meet all deadlines associated with the grant process, and maintain a master grant calendar
- Create social media content for various platforms and increase engagement with audiences using web-based tools
- Publish monthly electronic marketing newsletters using Mailchimp
- Develop marketing initiatives for programs and events
- Write, edit, and proofread content
- Design online and print graphics and materials, including newsletters, flyers, infographics, social media visuals, etc.
- Supports organization at special events, community events, etc., as required
- Perform other duties and projects as required
- Participates in continuing education courses and conferences as needed

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; and 2-5 years successful experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Demonstrated history of successful grant writing and management skills
- Experience with soliciting and writing proposals for government grants and corporate foundations is highly preferred
- Experience working within a >$1 million dollar nonprofit organization a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability in handling multiple priorities, project management, and meeting deadlines; strong planning and organizational skills
- Ability to work with a diverse and multi-disciplinary team
Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, and proposals. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
Computer Skills: Proficient in Google Workspace (Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive), Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Salesforce (or similar fundraising/CRM database), Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Spark), Canva, grant research tools (Foundation Directory, Instrumental, GrantStation), Mailchimp (or similar email marketing platform), and WordPress

Work Location: Washington, DC (near Union Station) - Staff members are temporarily working remotely due to COVID-19, but this position will require full-time presence in the office once normal operations resume.
