Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) is currently accepting applications for 7-8 legislative internship positions in his Washington DC office for Spring 2025. Responsibilities include corresponding with and serving Massachusetts constituents through tasks such as answering phones, responding to inquiries, and giving tours of the U.S. Capitol, assisting the Senator and staff in all areas of office operation, researching legislative initiatives and drafting replies to constituent inquiries, attending Senate committee hearings and briefings, and assisting with a variety of administrative or communications projects, including compiling press clips. All applicants should be responsible self-starters who possess strong writing, research, and interpersonal skills. Candidates should have a proven ability to work well independently and with others, and also possess strong task delegation and completion rates. The DC internship program is directed toward current and recent undergraduate students. Backgrounds in political science, international relations, environmental studies, liberal arts, and STEM are desirable but not required. Massachusetts ties are strongly preferred. Stipends are available at a rate of $15/hour pre-tax to students who could not otherwise afford to live or work in Washington DC.
