Job Summary

The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for the accounting duties for the Organization. The Senior Staff accountant will supervise the staff accountant I. They are responsible for quality accurate and timely monthly closes, year-end reports and for execution of the annual audit. They are responsible for Organizational financial reporting. Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for all Federal contracts including drawdowns and reporting.

 

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Maintenance of the General Ledger system
  • Review the closing with the Controller prior to the closing meeting with the Controller. 
  • Responsible for reviewing Account reconciliations prior to close meeting
  • Review all ages accounts with the Controller and manages collection activities
  • Manages along side the Controller, the year-end schedules and annual audit to a successful conclusion on time
  • Prepares schedules and submission of UTEC’s Federal Overhead rate
  • Completes schedules for review by Controller for State UFR reporting
  • Responsible for internal and external reporting to institutions as required
  • Management of Federal Contracts; including reporting, budget amendments, drawdowns
  • Management of temp restricted schedule and recording of pledges
  • Responsible for reviewing Accounts payable transactions, approving new vendors, process weekly payments
  • Responsible for assisting Staff Accountant I and II with credit card transactions
  • Responsible for ensuring that no external deadlines are missed through the detailed use of an accounting calendar
  • Follows and complete timely internal audits to ensure policies and procedures are being followed
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skill
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
  • General ledger accounting software experienced highly preferred
  • Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks
  • Ability to work with a minimal amount of supervision
  • The ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
  • 3-5 years of experience

 

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Able to travel as needed.

 

Salary/Benefits: The starting salary for this role is $65,000 plus benefits. UTEC offers a competitive benefits package that starts with 4 weeks of vacation (3 standard for all new employees and a week of agency-wide wellness closure between the Christmas and New Year holidays), 12 holidays, 10 sick days, 2 personal days, and health, dental and vision insurance.
