About Our Roots: Our Roots offers virtual peer coaching around maternal mental wellness to historically marginalized communities of color to promote healing and prevent anxiety and depression. By offering this service at a critical period in a birthing parent’s journey, we are working toward our vision of building generational wellness by and with our communities. 

Our peer coaches are equitably paid, and receive ongoing training. Our service is unique because it is radically accessible, culturally-reverent, and is offered to any birthing parent regardless of diagnosis.

To date, we have offered 1500+ check-ins to 200 birthing parents in and around Oakland, CA.  In the next three years, our aim is to bring joy to 10,000+ birthing parents of color in California and beyond through partnerships with Medicaid plans and community-based partnerships. We will do this by building out our tech platform to amplify the human touch of peer support.

Our work has been fueled by funding partners including California Healthcare Foundation, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, and Twilio.org. We are a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt tech non-profit. 

About the Role: We are eager to bring on a Founding Operations Lead. This is our first full-time hire, and the person will be instrumental in growing our impact while balancing care for our communities and the urgency of the need. We are looking for someone who believes that living in a world in which every pregnant and postpartum person can experience joy during the perinatal period and beyond is non-negotiable, who brings business operations expertise at a startup or a social impact organization, and feels energized to dive in, learn and do. In this role, you will be responsible for building out and refining operational processes, for developing our data systems, understanding and holding strong relationships with our stakeholders, and for some aspects of product development and management. 

Key Responsibilities:

Data Systems:

  • Build data dashboards to support decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and/or improve upon system for data collection, storage, cleaning and flow
  • Establish and periodically assess key performance indicators around success of product and identify areas for celebration and improvement


Operations:

  • Develop and iterate on key operational processes to make peer support coaching more efficient and effective as we work with new birthing parents in new geographies
  • Create and improve upon thorough and concise standard operating procedures that will enable peer coaches to deliver exceptional, loving care at scale 
  • Quickly develop or bring a pre-existing understanding of how Medicaid policies impact current work and areas where we might expand
  • Remain up to date on and ensure our product is compliant with the latest HIPAA requirements based on stakeholder conversations and research 
  • Strategize hiring roadmap and resource allocation with CEO as we build new partnerships   
  • Support CEO with crafting job descriptions, recruiting, interviewing, and other hiring processes 


Product:

  • Support the ideation, development and implementation of new product features through stakeholder conversations and data insights 
  • Understand and prioritize needs of birthing parents and translate these into testable features for peer coaches and our community 
  • Create feedback loops to document quantitative and community-centered qualitative understanding of product experience


Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Build and grow strong relationships with key stakeholders, including our communities, our community partners, peer support coaches, and leadership


About you: 

Experience: 

In line with our values, we are less interested in the degrees you hold, and more interested in the experiences and skills you bring to this role.  The following are must-haves:

  • 3 - 5+ years of experience in operations and/or product management ideally at an early-stage tech startup, tech non-profit
  • Expert knowledge in cleaning and transforming data, and integrating data sources using Excel programming to build and manage data dashboards
  • Have built, led, and worked with small, impact-oriented and collaborative teams (ideally inclusive of technical team members) 
  • Expertise in project management meaning you can manage multiple priorities and deliver impact while balancing intentionality and swiftness
  • Proficiency in Google Analytics and Airtable 
  • Bonus: Previous experience with healthcare and Medicaid landscape

Compensation and Other Details:

Compensation: Annual salary of $85,000 - $90,000+ depending on experience 

Benefits: Unlimited personal vacation and federal holidays

Position type: Full-time; Remote (Except for any in-person retreats, travel to conferences or in-person gatherings with our communities)
