We are a nonprofit professional association for attorneys. Our ideal candidate has strong event-planning and organizational skills, exceptional attention to detail, enjoys being busy, is comfortable interacting and negotiating with venues and vendors, and works well primarily remotely. The Events Manager will oversee the organization’s in-person events, including adding more networking events for BHBA members. The Events Manager will work from home except when staffing events in the greater Los Angeles region. 

Responsibilities 

  • Oversee all in-person events including signature annual events, happy hours, in-person section meetings, in-person board meetings, cross-board events, and other networking events that occur throughout the greater Los Angeles area
  • Maintain primary responsibility for in-person events, troubleshoot as needed, recommend improvements to Operations Director as needed
  • Create budgets for existing and future in-person events and ensure revenue and expenses track budgets
  • Gather vendor quotes, select vendors, coordinate logistics, ensure events stay within approved budget
  • Onsite at events, manage name badges, attendee check-in, speaker assistance, and venue coordination
  • Work with Operations Director on sponsor relationships and maintenance
  • Work with Marketing Manager on events promotion
  • Develop expertise in CLE compliance for CA (training provided)
  • Liaise with volunteer Section leaders and speakers about in-person event details
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment in resolving member and event issues raised by team members
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements 

  • Event-planning expertise
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office and Zoom
  • Working knowledge of Canva, Salesforce, and Constant Contact, or experience with similar apps and aptitude for learning new ones quickly
  • Enthusiasm for working with people and learning new technology
  • Ability to work with multiple colleagues independently on a daily basis
  • Ability to escalate questions as needed with problem-solving approach
  • At least four years of relevant work experience

Position reports to Operations Director and will work closely with Executive Director and other team members. Equal opportunity employer. Generous paid time off. 401k match of up to 4% of salary. Health insurance stipend available to cover full monthly premium. Standard full-time work week is 40 hours. Evening and weekend hours occasionally required for events and must live in greater Los Angeles region to staff events. Primarily remote employment; MacBook and other home office necessities provided as needed. Cell phone stipend provided. Pay range starts at $38/hr.
