Description of Job
The Press and Community Engagement Coordinator reports to the Lt. Governor’s Chief of Staff (COS) and has a dotted line to the Governor’s Communications and Community Engagement Director. This position is responsible for leading all press, community and stakeholder engagement, and communications needs for the Lt. Governor’s Office. This position aids in content creation, including speeches, digital content, memos, articles, reports, op eds and other materials; helps advance and staff external events; and, is a liaison between the Lt. Governor’s Office and the Governor’s Communications and Community Engagement team.
Ideal candidates for this position will be exceptional writers, strategic thinkers and effective communicators who are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and interacting with a wide range of program areas and stakeholders, including media, elected officials, cabinet members, advocates and members of the public. They will take initiative to prevent and solve problems by proposing and implementing solutions. They will also have outstanding organizational and time-management skills, the ability to carry out assignments independently and can establish and maintain effective personal relationships with peers, supervisory staff, state agencies and external stakeholders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Advances events for the Lt. Governor, including events open to the press
In partnership with the Executive Assistant to the Lt. Governor (EA), ensures the Lt. Governor is prepared for events, including all logistics
Works with the EA to track and manage all follow up actions from external events
Creates briefing materials for all communications events the Lt. Governor participates in
Works with Governor’s Communications and Community Engagement team to ensure coordination and effective execution for all press related events and engagements
Works with the Lt. Governor’s COS and Deputy COS and the Governor’s Digital Director to develop and implement the Governor’s Office of Communications’ digital plan on the Lt. Governor's social media accounts
Prepares initial drafts of remarks, talking points, op eds, memos, articles, reports, digital posts and other content
Works with the Governor’s Communications Director and their team to execute on all communications for the Lt. Governor’s Office
Works with the Lt. Governor’s COS and Governor’s Communications Director to develop a strategic communications plan for the Lt. Governor’s Office. Liaises with Program Leads within the Lt. Governor’s Office to implement strategic communication plans for Program Areas.
Pursues and identifies opportunities to socialize and advance the goals of the Polis-Primavera Administration and the Lt. Governor’s Office
Maintains the Lt. Governor’s Office external communications toolkit including but not limited to templates, graphics, and stakeholder lists
Special projects as needed and
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
Graphic design, infographic design
Familiarity with Google Suite
Previous working experience as communications specialist
Experience and knowledge in copywriting, proofreading and editing
Photo and video-editing skills
Web design and content production
Experience supporting a senior elected official or other principal
Organizational Relationships: This position reports to the Lt. Governor’s COS with a dotted line to the Governor’s CCED. This position may oversee interns.
Expected Annual Travel: Frequent in-state travel.
