The Department of Energy OIG is seeking a highly qualified individual to fill its Senior Counsel for Legislative Affairs position in the immediate office of the Inspector General. Duties

As the Senior Counsel to the Inspector General (Legislative Affairs) you will:


Serve as the primary coordinator of Congressional relations for the OIG, and the primary representative for the OIG in interactions with Congressional staff.

Maintain regular communication with Congressional staff of DOE OIG's main oversight committees.

Advise the Inspector General (IG) on all matters involving interaction with members of Congress, monitoring legislative activity, providing comments on legislative proposals, drafting testimony and Congressional correspondence, and responding to requests from Congress.

Facilitate briefings of high-level officials to include Congressional members and senior Federal officials.

Attend various Congressional hearings on energy-related matters and report back to the IG.

Prepare and review testimony for the IG and Senior Staff as they testify before Congressional committees, assuring that testimony, presentations, and other statements are accurate and timely.

Develop and execute a program for IG meetings with key chairs and ranking members, monitoring developments on legislation relevant to the OIG and work directly and through the Council of Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency legislative committee to promote legislation to enhance OIG authorities generally, and for the OIG in particular.

Serve as a representative for the OIG with high level officials within and outside the Department, other federal agencies, congressional oversight committees.

Makes legal and policy recommendations based upon research, analysis, and the evaluation of expert information.

Use legal training, practical experience and knowledge of OIG and Department personnel and activities to advise the IG on matters affecting the mission of the OIG and the efficiency of the Department.
