Are you passionate about promoting policies and programs that benefit customers and communities? Alliant Energy is seeking a Lead Public Affairs Manager to join our team! This position will report to our office in Des Moines, IA. In this position, you will promote policies and programs that help effectively serve Alliant Energy customers and strengthen its communities. You’ll ensure the organization's awareness of state legislation, including potential impact on service to customers, company, employees, and shareowners. In addition, you will coordinate, and implement advocacy efforts with state legislators, regulators, and other stakeholders. This position represents Alliant Energy's positions before state elected and appointed officials, governors' offices, state agencies, and the general public.
What you will do
  • Assists in the development of policies and procedures to ensure Alliant Energy’s awareness of and impact on state and local legislation.
  • Develops and maintains positive and effective relationships with elected and appointed governmental officials.
  • Monitors legislative activity and communicates with company leadership and subject matter experts to assess favorable and unfavorable impact on issues.
  • Represents and helps advance Alliant Energy’s position on legislation and regulatory affairs through elected representatives and their staffs, as well as to officials and staff in regulatory and other agencies.
  • Assists in the development of government affairs activities to help promote effective employee, customer, public, and shareowner relations.
  • Manages the implementation of grassroots lobbying programs and helps engage and involve employees in the legislative process.
  • Develops and maintains effective lines of communication with state and local governments.
  • May also represent company interests with trade, industry, and other organizations.
  • Engages in other duties as needed that support Alliant Energy’s Values and helps deliver on our Purpose to serve customers and build stronger communities.
Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Political Science, or related area is preferred.

Required Experience
  • 8 years of experience in legislative, governmental, or public affairs.

Other Requirements
  • Promotes and supports diversity initiatives and equal employment opportunity.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the political process and its relationship to governmental administrative agencies.
  • Demonstrated financial skills such as budgeting and basic accounting.
  • Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management).
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse and inclusive work environment.
