TITLE: Communications Coordinator

DEPARTMENT: Marketing

SUPERVISOR: Director of Marketing & Communications

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-time/Non-Exempt, Onsite

HIRING RANGE: $24.00 to $24.65

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:

The Crocker Art Museum brings people together and connects them in unexpected ways with art, ideas, each other, and the world around them. This position helps fulfil this by serving as a representative of the Crocker, building awareness of the Museum and our activities through outreach to local, regional, and national news media, community groups, and digital/social communities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Media Relations and Targeted Outreach

  • Coordinate proactive and reactive press and media relations efforts in collaboration with Marketing Director including drafting/gathering press materials, conducting media outreach, and fielding and coordinating interview requests within the Museum.
  • Collaborate with all departments to assure priorities are met through planned and responsive public relations and outreach activity.
  • Help maintain Museum media lists including awareness of relevant reporters and contacts.
  • Identify opportunities for and conduct proactive outreach to key community groups, influencers, opinion leaders, and organizations to promote Museum programs and events.
  • Monitor, track, and report on earned media activity.

Social Media and Website

  • Help maintain the Crocker Art Museum website including proactive and directed edits, build out of calendar events, and new exhibition content.
  • Assist with the management of the Crocker’s social media channels, including content development and community engagement.
  • Source and complete minor editing on images/visuals to support social media, email and website content using Museum resources, department team or independent photography.
  • Identify opportunities to amplify earned media or build media or influencer relationships in social channels.
  • Exhibit a comfort with, and interest in, emerging communications platforms including new social channels, multimedia etc.

General

  • Draft written marketing content as assigned.
  • Support Marketing team in proofreading and editing written and designed content, and in tracking consistency of information across channels.
  • Provide outstanding customer service on behalf of the Museum via assigned channels.
  • Work across marketing systems and tools including media outreach, website CMS, ticketing, email, and project management platforms.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and other department team members to ideate and execute new content types, improve on existing formats and maximize all Museum content efforts.
  • Help maintain an awareness of best practices in museum and other content and communication programs. Surface applicable insights and observations to benefit Crocker programs. Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 2-3 years of experience in public relations, media relations, community relations, social media management and/or related fields. Internships and coursework may apply community relations, social media management and/or related fields. Internships and coursework may apply.
  • Outstanding communication skills including written content.
  • Outstanding editing and proofreading skills.
  • Organizational and project management skills that reflect ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to build professional relationships with external community groups, influencers, media, etc.
  • Comfort with a variety of digital communication platforms including web content management systems, blogs, event listings, email management.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with members, visitors, volunteers, vendors, etc.
  • Intellectual curiosity and problem-solving ability.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in teams and across departments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience in Adobe Creative Suite, email platforms (MailChimp, ConstantContact etc.), web content management systems, project management tools (Clickup, Asana etc.), and other software/systems.
  • Punctual and adheres to scheduled hours.
  • Available for occasional evening, morning or weekend hours.
  • Background or interest in art, art education, art history preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk and/or sit for long periods of time. They must have physical dexterity and the ability to carefully handle objects, as well as ability to lift and move items of various weights and sizes. Positions have occasion to lift and/or move objects of 15-20 lbs.
