The Team You’ll Work With:
The Mayor’s Office of City Legislative Affairs serves as the principal liaison between Mayor Eric Adams’
Administration and the New York City Council. City Legislative Affairs works toward the goal of fostering
productive relationships between the executive and legislative branches and assists the Mayor’s
Administration in: (1) shaping public policy; (2) developing and advancing the Administration’s agenda
through local law, the budget and land use; (3) negotiating City Council legislation; and (4) preparing
agencies for City Council public hearings.
The Problems You’ll Solve:
The Chief of Staff, a senior staff position, works closely with the Director of City Legislative Affairs to
oversee the operational efficiency and effectiveness of the Office. The Chief of Staff will serve as the
central coordinator with the Deputy Directors and Director to ensure that informational and
administrative tasks are being carried out. Duties of the Chief of Staff include but are not limited to:
Managing and tracking the negotiation of bills as they move through the legislative process;
Cultivating relationships with the New York City Council;
- Building strong working relationships with City Hall staff and ensuring that the correct stakeholders
- Overseeing Mayoral events led by CLA, providing direction on communications strategy and
- Acting as an advisor to the Director and senior leadership team and representing the Director in
- Drafting briefings for the Mayor, Director, and other key stakeholders;
- Assisting in the recruitment and hiring for the Office;
- Supporting interactions between the City Council and the administration, including responding to
- Supervising and providing direction to the team.
- You have a Bachelor’s Degree. Graduate degree (JD/MPA/MS) preferred.
- You have experience in a senior level management position.
- You have demonstrated understanding of and experience with any combination of the following:
the State legislative process, public policy analysis, New York City or State agency operations and
lobbying.
- You have excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills along with a strong work-ethic and the

- You have enthusiasm for working in a fast-paced, collaborative and dynamic team culture
Salary
The City of New York Office of the Mayor’s compensation package includes a market competitive salary,
equity for all full-time roles and exceptional benefits. Our cash compensation range for this role is
$120,000 - $125,000.
Final offers may vary from the amount listed based on candidate experience and expertise, and other
factors.
