Position Title: Commercial Attaché – Aerospace, Defense and

Security

Location: Washington DC, Philadelphia, New York

Starting Salary: $ 87,543.00

Open to: U.S Citizens or Green Card holders ONLY

The Organization

The Québec Government Office in New York, inaugurated in 1940, is Québec’s primary representation in the United States. Serving the Mid-Atlantic states (New

York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland,

Kentucky, and Washington D.C.), it promotes Québec interests in the areas of trade, investment, government and public affairs, science and technology, education, culture, and immigration.

An important share of Québec’s aerospace and defense exports are destined for the Mid-Atlantic market, and many Québec companies in this sector prioritize the region for growing their US presence. These companies design and build structures, manufacture parts and equipment; develop cutting-edge technologies for measurement, testing, communications, and training; and provide innovative systems, software, and services. The role of our office is to support these companies in achieving their objectives in the US.

Summary of duties

The commercial attaché helps Québec companies achieve their objectives by providing them with strategic advice and market information, by introducing them to new business contacts, and by contributing to targeted promotional efforts. The commercial attaché constantly strives to grow and nurture her/his network of contacts, to identify new business opportunities, and to respond to the needs of

Québec companies.

The commercial attaché works under the supervision of the Trade and Economic

Affairs Director of the Québec Government Office in New York. She/he carries out her/his responsibilities in close coordination with Investment Québec

International, as well as with other Québec offices in the US, and in collaboration with Canada’s Trade Commissioner Service.

Specifically, she/he will:

  • Advise and provide practical support to Québec companies in their efforts to develop and win new business in the Mid-Atlantic region.
  • Forge strong relationships with relevant market actors in the US.
  • Identify and monitor relevant market trends.
  • Develop and carry out action plans.
  • Attend industry events and conferences.
  • Identify US participants for industry events taking place in Québec.
  • Assist with similar work in other economic sectors (incl.: aluminium and metallurgy; AI, IOT and digitalization; strategic and critical minerals).

Essential requirements

  • Education: University degree (minimum B.A.)
  • Language: Fluency in English and proficiency in French
  • Experience: Three years minimum of relevant experience

Rated requirements

The ideal candidate will:

  • possess a solid understanding of the American aerospace, defense and security sectors (trends, decision-making processes, regulations, sales processes, etc.) and a good existing network of business contacts in these sectors.
  • be customer service oriented and possess strong networking and business development skills.
  • be proactive in identifying opportunities and courses of action.
  • have the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • have strong research and communications skills.
  • have excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • be flexible, versatile, and willing to adapt to changing assignments.

Prior knowledge of the Québec aerospace, defense and security sectors and of

Québec-US trade relations would be considered assets but are not essential.
