The Harris-Walz Campaign is seeking a spokesperson for the communications team in Wilmington. The deputy spokesperson will provide critical support in drafting sharp, compelling messaging that will resonate in a fragmented media environment. Under the direction of the Senior Advisor for Communications, the spokesperson will help to draft press materials including releases and statements, actively pitch stories, act as on-the-record spokesperson and help manage a variety of in-bound stories. We are looking for folks with a variety of backgrounds and experience, and are dedicated to building a team that looks like America.

Key Responsibilities

  • Help develop materials and execute on strategic communication imperatives – with a particular emphasis on written communication;
  • Working closely with campaign and DNC research, create proactive opportunities to advance a contrast in earned media with GOP candidates;
  • Draft materials for internal and external use such as memos, press releases, statements, reporter notes, ICYMIs and other products;
  • Act as a spokesperson for the campaign on both incoming and proactive opportunities, working closely with senior spokespeople and the senior advisor for communications;
  • Pitch and proactively flack key campaign priorities and messages to press
  • Play an integral role in planning and preparation for proactive and reactive tentpole moments where campaign response is critical;
  • Work closely with campaign digital rapid response to ensuring the comms team is supporting and complimenting the digital team’s efforts while maintaining message consistency.
  • Work closely with communications associates and chief of staff to help manage flow of information from your vertical

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

  • 2-3 years minimum of experience in communications or similar field;
  • A uniquely strong ability and affection for writing pointed, funny, creative and hard-hitting paper products that are rooted and driven by excellent research;
  • A team player with the willingness to manage and lead the communications team to successfully execute on multiple initiatives;
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, creativity, and strong attention to detail;
  • Motivated, self-starter able to work independently as well as collaboratively with the Communications team and all campaign staff to help execute strategic communications plan;
  • Ability to multitask and work under tight deadlines, as well as creatively solve problems;
  • Excellent time management skills; and, ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
