Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that supports the independently incorporated Planned Parenthood affiliates operating health centers across the U.S. Planned Parenthood Action Fund is an independent, nonpartisan, not-for-profit membership organization formed as the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. The Action Fund engages in educational, advocacy, and electoral activity, including grassroots organizing, legislative advocacy, and voter education.
Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and Planned Parenthood Action Fund (PPAF) seek a National Director of Black Health Equity. This job reports to the Senior Advisor to the President in the Black Health Equity Initiative (BHEI) department of the Programs division of PPFA. The BHEI prioritizes equity in the delivery of care, education, and policy; BHEI also focuses on improving health experiences and outcomes for Black women/femmes across the Federation.
Purpose:
Reporting to the Senior Advisor to the President, Black Health Equity, the National Director will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of BHEI to improve Black health outcomes across the Federation. The National Director will play a strategic and facilitative role, requiring strong leadership, high emotional intelligence, self-motivation, and diplomacy to advance health equity and improve health outcomes within Black communities nationwide. This role will manage a team of passionate leaders steeped in Black Health Equity. This role will intentionally center Black women, girls, and gender-expansive supporters, patients, and leaders. This role will be a partner to defining, integrating and elevating strategy and clarifying areas of improvement and success. This role will directly support the Senior Advisor to leverage Planned Parenthood’s role as the pinnacle in sexual and reproductive health care and its expansive infrastructure as a provider, educator, and advocate to develop a rigorous, evidence-based theory of change, program delivery model, and evaluation methodology.
Delivery:
- Lead the development of health equity strategy at the national office, ensuring alignment with PPFA’s strategic plan, particularly the goal centered on ‘Building Excellence and Equity.’
- Act as a strategic advisor and consultant to all PPFA departments and divisions to promote organization-wide health equity outcomes, with a focus on evidence-based health equity and impact goals.
- Apply expertise in health equity to define and execute cross-enterprise solutions that intend to reduce health disparities.
- Apply a broad knowledge of the health equity landscape, industry, and organization to define specific solutions.
- Identify new opportunities and new learnings and contribute to institutional learning and establishment of best practices.
- Serve as the primary leader in shaping and enacting the affiliate’s culture and BHEI initiative in close collaboration with the CEO and senior management.
- Build new partnerships and opportunities for collaboration with nationally-recognized organizations and experts in the fields of public health, health equity, reproductive justice, and Black well-being.
- Provide project leadership and management to support the Senior Advisor on projects aligned with Federation goals and the national office strategic plan.
- Perform other duties assigned.
Engagement:
- Work extensively with staff at PPFA and with senior leaders across the Federation to build understanding and engagement about health equity while identifying synergies in approaches and possible opportunities for collaboration with other teams in PD and throughout the national office.
- Act as a thought leader, influencer, mentor and advisor to departments and teams driving Black health equity efforts across the federation.
- Represent PPFA and health equity initiatives on external health care, health equity and public health meetings and conferences; seek out new partnerships and opportunities for collaboration with nationally-recognized organizations and experts.
- Provide technical assistance, coaching, and internal consultation to affiliate leadership teams, incorporating a health equity lens into their work areas and topics such a strategic planning, health equity metrics, racial justice, change management, and community engagement.
- Collaborate with Federation members and affiliates to foster effective communication channels, ensuring alignment with our organization’s strategic objectives and goals.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
- Master’s degree in public health or related field required.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in public health, health equity, and/or improving health inequities for communities experiencing the greatest disparities.
- Strong facilitation skills and demonstrated ability to facilitate transformative conversations around health and racial equity with diverse stakeholders.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills, including an aptitude for writing, fact-gathering, storytelling and analysis.
- Ability to effectively interact one-on-one with all levels of management and leadership.
- Strong racial justice analysis and understanding of health equity and reproductive justice within Black communities.
- Demonstrated project management skills, including goal setting, relationship cultivation, and stakeholder engagement.
- Proficiency in data analysis and visualization to identify health equity trends.
- Excellent written communication skills for diverse audiences, translating theoretical concepts into actionable recommendations.
- Experience engaging with high-level executive leadership.
- Ability to navigate complex organizational structures and identify solutions in challenging situations.
Travel: 0-30% domestic
$168,000 - $180,000 a year
