Job Description
Reporting to the Managing Director of Education and Learning and a member of the Impact Leadership Teams, the Director of Student Impact (DSI) will oversee the implementation of the Whole School, Whole Child (WSWC) model through the supervision of at least 4 Impact Managers who oversee teams of 4-8 AmeriCorps members in 5-7 schools. The Director of Student Impact must enjoy organizational culture, management, and inspiring and developing others. The DSI will collaborate closely with the Impact Leadership Team (ILT) to ensure that we meet the needs of the students in Memphis in the schools in which we serve, as well as the AmeriCorps members who commit to serving for 1-2 years.
The DSI must be a people coach, program director, and relationship manager. The DSI balances team leadership and individual team member coaching, while holding team members accountable to meeting program goals. Through clarity of goals and processes, the DSI will ensure the successful implementation of our model, WSWC and the successful graduation of our AmeriCorps Members. With program and people in mind, the DSI engages critical stakeholders (e.g. school leaders) in the planning and implementation process, ensuring partner satisfaction and strong outcome data.
Additionally, the DSI will serve on the site senior leadership team, helping to drive and support site-wide initiatives and projects.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities for this role include guiding, motivating, and managing staff in a collaborative and community-minded environment as well as sharpening and advancing the execution of the service model, Whole School, Whole Child. The DSI with be responsible for building and sustaining relationships with critical stakeholders to advance our work, including school administration and staff.
The DSI will be responsible for upholding program and service-based operating policies and procedures consistent with the organization’s culture and desired results, working collaboratively with all members of the Impact Leadership Team: with the Director of Learning and Career Development to ensure the site delivers a transformative training program for AmeriCorps Members, with the Senior Analytics and Operations Manager to ensure the successful implementation of City Year Memphis’ evaluation and analytics mechanisms, and the Learning and Coaching Specialist to ensure alignment between school expectations and corps members implementation of WSWC.
As Director of Student Impact, you will:
TEAM LEADERSHIP AND DEVELOPMENT
- Supervise and coach at least four Impact Managers on building and maintaining strong partnerships that support short-term and long-term service impact goals.
- Collaborate to ensure Impact Managers have the information, resources, and training required to build effective school partnerships and powerful experiences for AmeriCorps members.
- In collaboration with the Impact Leadership Team, monitor school teams’ outcomes using data to inform and improve service delivery and establish plans to improve or correct service delivery to maximize outcomes for students and the experience of AmeriCorps members.
- Support AmeriCorps members through specific emergencies, in partnership with Impact Managers and the Managing Director of Education and Learning.
- Ensure Impact staff are aware of and follow City Year policies and protocols on Professional Accountability, student and member safety, inclusivity, and adherence to AmeriCorps standards.
- Partner with the Impact Leadership Team to anticipate and articulate the training and support needs of staff and AmeriCorps members, provide resources, monitor performance, and improve operations.
- Regularly lead activities that engage AmeriCorps members in teambuilding activities, topical discussions, and feedback sessions to advance their abilities and inform service delivery.
SERVICE DELIVERY AND PARTNERSHIP MANAGEMENT
- Work with the School Partners and Impact Managers to establish school-level impact and partnership goals that clearly define the performance expectations of Impact staff and AmeriCorps members.
- Oversee the delivery and monitoring of City Year Memphis’ school-based service to ensure that annual impact, partnership, and safety goals are met, and all activities comply with organizational standards and best practices.
- Lead the creation of annual school-level Statements of Partnership, which document the goals and expectations of all partners. Negotiate support and resources needed for schools and other partners to maximize City Year’s impact on student outcomes.
- Regularly visit schools and meet with Impact Managers, AmeriCorps members, and school leadership to proactively identify strategic opportunities to strengthen City Year’s support of schools, including the use of intervention programs, systematic data review, teacher communication, and ongoing professional development.
- Manage and build relationships with a variety of stakeholders and partners, including school leaders and administrators, teachers, and staff at other community organizations.
- As needed, conduct member-specific observations while they provide Tier I and Tier II support, and coach individuals to improve their student engagement and academic practice.
Participation as member of the City Year national network
- The DSI is expected to be an active member of the City Year national network by participating in conference calls, responding to e-mails, and completing other tasks as necessary. The DSI may also be asked to lead on select network initiatives.
Participate in Organizational Initiatives
- Devote up to ten days a year to corps member recruitment interviews.
- Assist with MLK Day, Opening Day, Annual Gala and other side-wide designated events.
- Occasionally attend overnight events - local and national events.
