What would you do as a DAP Staff Attorney?

As a Disability Advocacy Project (DAP) Staff Attorney, you'll embark on a fulfilling journey where each day presents new challenges and opportunities to create positive change. Your typical schedule will be Monday through Friday, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, allowing for a structured yet adaptable work environment. You'll provide legal representation and assistance in Social Security Disability and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) claims and may be assigned cases involving eligibility for public assistance and Medicaid benefits.

You'll collaborate with a passionate team, engaging in brainstorming sessions to develop innovative strategies and solutions tailored to each client's unique situation. Additionally, you'll participate in training and advocacy initiatives, ensuring your skills and knowledge remain sharp. Expect to build strong relationships with clients while navigating complex legal landscapes, all within a supportive and relaxed company culture that prioritizes empathy and integrity.

Are you a good fit for this DAP Staff Attorney job?

To thrive as a DAP Staff Attorney, you will need to be admitted to the NYS Bar or being eligible to sit for the NYS Bar exam. A demonstrated commitment to delivering high-quality legal services to various civil matters, along with effective communication skills to engage compassionately with clients and collaborate seamlessly with colleagues. You should be organized and able to work independently and efficiently, managing multiple cases while meeting deadlines.

Strong computer skills are a must, including accurate data entry. Prior legal experience in Social Security Administration disability representation is preferred. Additionally, being multilingual, especially in Spanish, can further enhance your ability to connect with clients. A valid driver's license and access to a car are also required for outreach and client visits across the service area.

This position operates in a professional law office environment and occasionally may require the carrying of items of up to 20 pounds. This role requires the use of standard office equipment and software and remote videoconferencing platforms.
