Position Summary
The Community Organizing Fellow is responsible for mobilizing and empowering ARC members and the community to engage in support of our justice reform efforts. The Fellow will also collaborate with other community-based organizations to strengthen partnerships and provide opportunities to our members for social impact. The position will have a duration of 12 months. You will report directly to the Policy and Community Organizing Manager.
Essential Job Functions
Work with the advocacy team to develop and implement member outreach and engagement strategies in support of advocacy priorities and campaigns.
- Attend community organizing trainings.
- Attend ARC’s member orientation and recruit new members interested in advocacy opportunities.
- Monitor ARC’s legislative priorities on the state and local level.
- Develop social media content, flyers, Eventbrite initiations etc. to engage the public and our members in advocacy and organizing events.
- Organize events, workshops, and listening sessions locally with members in support of advocacy priorities, such as local city and county motions, state legislative visits, and other events related to policy and advocacy.
- Help coordinate and identify ARC members to participate in advocacy visits to Sacramento and elsewhere as required.
- Attend monthly ARC member services activities.
- Attend weekly Advocacy and Community Organizing team meetings.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of criminal and juvenile justice issues in California. Expertise includes being formerly incarcerated.
- Experience in community organizing.
- Ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
- Outstanding critical thinking skills
- Excellent verbal and written communications skill
- Excellent interpersonal skills
Skill Sets: Highly motivated and able to multi-task. Team spirit, with trust in coworkers. Requires excellent written and verbal communication including the ability to write clear emails/reports. Requires excellent interpersonal and community engagement skills. Requires proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Ability to execute day-to-day tasks and work independently as well as part of a team.
- Ability to travel throughout the state of California and nationally, as required.

Salary/Benefits
- Pay range is $24.00-$28.00 per hour doe.
- ARC pays up to 100% medical/dental/vision benefits for the individual; up to 50% for dependents.
