Lobbyist – Principal or Senior Principal
Summary
Cozen O’Connor Public Strategies (CPS), a leading bipartisan lobbying firm in Washington, D.C., is seeking senior lobbyist candidates to join its growing federal team. The ideal candidate will have at least 6 years of government or direct client-facing experience.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a strategic advisor and as an advocate/lobbyist for firm clients, while developing and implementing federal advocacy strategies on behalf of companies, trade associations, non-profits, startups, and others;
- Direct and oversee the development, preparation, and recommendation of short and long-term legislative and executive advocacy plans; implement strategies that advance client policy objectives (legislative, regulatory, and administrative) and other priorities;
- Leverage existing relationships to represent the interests of clients on Capitol Hill before Members of Congress, congressional committees, and congressional staff, and before the White House and federal agencies;
- Build and strengthen the reputation and relationships of clients with other key organizations and stakeholders and promote client objectives to those audiences;
- Monitor policy developments, regulatory actions and the general political environment to advise and counsel regarding potential impacts as they relate to client businesses and markets;
- Manage a team of professionals who provide support in designing and executing strategies to advance the goals of various advocacy and research initiatives;
- Assist in hosting clients in Washington during events and Washington fly-ins;
- Contribute to and participate in business development efforts.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, at a minimum, from an accredited four-year college or university;
- A minimum of 6 years of federal advocacy expertise in, or advocating before, the legislative and executive branches of government, including Congress, congressional committees and key government agencies;
- Expert knowledge of the federal legislative and regulatory processes, including the roles, responsibilities, and functions of the executive and legislative branches and relevant third parties and associations;
- Strong network of contacts within government, including members of Congress and their staff, and administration officials (both political and career);
- Demonstrated ability to cultivate relationships on Capitol Hill and within the Executive Branch with policymakers, staff and other key decision makers to advocate for client objectives;
- Ability to think strategically and independently, as well as adapt to the changing needs and desires of individual clients;
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
Salary is commensurate with experience.
