Office of Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (FL-20)

 

Digital Media Strategist – The Office of Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick, a Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee’s (HFAC) Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee and Returning Member of the House Veteran Affairs Committee (HVAC) seeks a Digital Media Strategist to lead the Member Office’s strategic communications efforts. 

The Digital Media Strategist will oversee the office’s digital media operations, while assisting the Communications Director’s efforts in executing the Member’s comprehensive communications strategy. They will serve as the primary content creator responsible for creating rapid-response and long-form video content to support the office’s messaging and engagement strategy. This staffer will accompany the Member to all public events and collaborate closely with the Communications Director to plan, devise, and produce compelling, high-quality video content tailored for digital platforms.

The ideal candidate is a leader, creator, strategic thinker, advisor, manager, team leader and player, strong writing and editing skills, skilled listener and communicator, detail-oriented and organized, responsive and accessible, a creative problem solver, and self-motivated. They are proactive and have a strong proficiency in crafting digital content, a detail-oriented team player able to handle multiple tasks at once.

Daily tasks include creating and managing content for the Member’s social media platforms; updating and managing the website; graphic design; filming and editing video content; overseeing daily press clips; drafting weekly e-newsletters; assisting with franked media strategy.

 

This position reports to the Communications Director.

This is not an entry-level position, prior digital experience is required.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

·        Develops, implements and leads an aggressive and effective digital media communications strategy for the Member;

·        Identifies areas of opportunities for the Member to expand her reach and build recognition, such as but not limited to, lifestyle media and influencer engagement;

·        Increases the Member’s profile by positioning her in key unconventional media such as daytime TV, podcasts, fireside chats, speaking opportunities, press conferences, public events, roundtables, and other opportunities;

·        Evaluates daily reports on media trends (traditional and social) on current events and media reports in the district and the nation for their impact on the Member;

·        Ensures that the Member’s digital media strategy and plan are incorporated and/or translated into the legislative plan and the district; 

·        Collaborates with the district office to identify key issues affecting the constituents (and proposes digital response recommendations); 

Videography & Content Creation:

·        Films and produces rapid-response videos and long-form video content to amplify the campaign’s message.

·        Captures video footage at all public events, ensuring quick turnaround for timely content delivery.

·        Creates proprietary, creative, and engaging video content that reflects the candidate’s vision and priorities.

Collaboration:

·        Works closely with the Communications Director to align video content with the campaign’s overall communications goals.

·        Partners with the broader communications and digital teams to integrate video into social media, email, and other outreach channels.

Content Strategy:

·        Identifies opportunities for compelling storytelling and dynamic video content to maximize audience engagement.

·        Maintains an organized library of footage for ongoing use across digital platforms.

Technical Execution:

·        Operates, maintains, and transports video equipment as required.

·        Ensures professional post-production, including editing, sound mixing, and adding graphics when necessary, to deliver polished final products.

·        Optimizes video content for various digital platforms, ensuring compatibility, quality, and accessibility.

Administrative:

·        Performs other duties as assigned;

·        Accepts performance-based criticism and direction;

·        Possesses a temperament to communicate with a variety of personalities in a tactful, pleasant, and professional manner;

·        Meets attendance requirements as established by the office;

·        Works well under pressure and handles stress;

·        Works a flexible schedule including long hours, nights, and weekends as needed according to the Congressional schedule;

·        Performs other duties as assigned.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

·        2-5 years Hill or political campaign experience (preferred);

·        Master’s degree (preferred); 

·        Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills;

·        Strong influencers and ability to regularly pitch stories;

·        Strong ability and experience in storytelling;

·        Strong understanding of digital media;

·        Knowledge of current issues and events in which the Member is involved;

·        Understanding of House franking rules; and 

·        Ability to work well under pressure, as well as cooperatively and courteously with others.

 

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

Starting salary range is $70K. The position offers health coverage; retirement benefits with an employer match; paid sick, bereavement, and vacation leave; 6-12 weeks of paid FMLA leave; transit or parking benefits; access to life insurance coverage; and access to the Student Loan Repayment Program.
