Overview

Democracy Now! seeks an experienced, dynamic fundraising professional to ensure continued financial sustainability and growth as we approach our 30th anniversary. The Director of Development will steward and advance well-established fundraising programs and incubate new fundraising strategies to support our $9M operating budget and enable growth. This role reports to the Executive Director and Executive Producer, heads up a passionate and motivated team of three full-time staff and is part of the organization’s leadership team.

 

Responsibilities 

  • Set long- and short-term revenue goals and identify strategies to meet those goals in consultation with the Executive Director and Executive Producer.
  •  Oversee all of Democracy Now!’s fundraising activities including foundation grants, individual giving, major gifts and planned giving.
  • Support a team of three-full time department staff with work plan development, supervision and professional development.
  • Collaborate with staff across the organization to achieve fundraising goals.
  •  Establish and maintain relationships with key individual and institutional funders, including personally soliciting new and renewing five- and six-figure gifts.
  • Write proposals, reports, solicitations and other copy to support fundraising initiatives and ensure consistency and tone across all department communications.
  •  Keep a comprehensive department calendar including grant proposal and reporting deadlines, individual and planned giving campaigns and key touch points with key funders.
  • Report on fundraising performance and provide annual revenue forecasts.
  • Plan and execute fundraising events large and small and participate in planning and supporting public events.
  • Represent Democracy Now! and support the Executive Producer at funder gatherings.
  • Ensure timely communication and gift acknowledgement for all donors.
  • Develop and maintain department protocols, policies and procedures and oversee the maintenance of up-to-date donor records and data in CiviCRM database.
  • Hire and manage relationships with vendors.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Skills and Qualifications

  • 5+ years leading multi-source development efforts for a 5M+ organization
  • Strong alignment with Democracy Now!’s mission 
  • Prior history leading a multi-person fundraising team 
  • Excellent communicator in writing, on calls and in person
  • Experience planning and executing fundraising events
  • Success soliciting and stewarding five- and six-figure gifts from foundations and individuals
  • Facility with fundraising tools and software including databases, email marketing services, word processing and spreadsheet applications


Compensation and Benefits

  • The salary range is $125,000 - $150,000.
