Job Description
Senator Edward J. Markey (D-MA), member of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, and Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Primary Health and Retirement Security, seeks a Legislative Assistant to work on a broad health care portfolio that includes HELP Committee and off-committee issues. The portfolio may also include some education policy, including early education. This individual will advise and brief the Senator; draft, introduce, and secure the passage of amendments and legislation; identify bipartisan opportunities; perform in-depth analysis and research; meet with constituents; prepare briefing materials; and collaborate with national and local stakeholders. Qualified candidates also should be entrepreneurial, possess excellent negotiation and writing skills, and work well in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. This position will report to the Policy Advisor for HELP Committee issues, and is not an entry-level position - previous experience working on health care policy is required. Candidates from BIPOC, LGBTQ+, working class, military, and/or other underrepresented communities are strongly encouraged to apply, as well as candidates with ties to Massachusetts or organizing experience. This position is based in the Washington, DC office with a salary of $79,510 annually and benefits that include a federal student loan repayment option.
