The Executive Division of the Office of the New York State Attorney General (OAG) is seeking a Director of
Communications.
As Director of Communications, you will be a key strategic advisor to the Attorney General, shaping public discourse on
critical legal and policy issues. You will be at the center of critical conversations, advising the Attorney General and
leading a talented team in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment. This role reports to the Chief of Staff and is a member
of the senior executive staff. The position is based in New York City and requires occasional travel.
Duties:
- Develop and implement comprehensive communications strategies that amplify OAG's work and impact.
- Manage all aspects of media relations, including rapid response and crisis communications on high profile,
- Oversee all written materials, including speeches, op-eds, often drafting and editing.
- Spearhead OAG's digital presence, including website content, social media engagement, and online campaigns,
- Supervise the communications team and collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure consistent and
- Build and maintain strong relationships with national and local press.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree and at least eight (8) years of relevant work experience.
- Government, political, and/or campaign experience is strongly preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal communications, including public speaking.
- Ability and experience working in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent editing skills.
- Management experience.
- Collegiality is necessary; good sense of humor is always appreciated.
- Prior communications experience with a law enforcement agency or legal professionals is a plus.
The annual salary for this position is $167,619 + $3,400 in location pay. As an employee of OAG, you will join a team of
