Overview:
We are seeking a State Affairs Associate to join the Hyundai Motor Group Government Affairs team in Washington, D.C. The State Affairs Associate will advance the Government Affairs function for Hyundai Motor Group (“the Group”), by providing support for key issues impacting the Group’s state regulatory and legislative objectives. The selected individual will also provide support on logistics for major events and projects.

Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in tracking state regulatory and legislative proposals that could impact the company and the industry.
- Serve as lobbyist on policy issues at the state level in policy areas that include but are not limited to franchise law, ZEV policy/fuel economy, autonomous/connected vehicles, consumer privacy, safety and emerging technologies.
- Represent HMG on relevant industry association State Affairs Committees.
- Work with HMG consultants, associations & industry allies to identify state legislation & regulations which are relevant to HMG’s business operations.
- Coordinate with subject matter experts and business units within HMG to assess the potential impact of of state legislation & regulations to assess the potential impact to HMG.
- Coordinate with internal and external partners to formulate response & lobbying strategy.
- Attend relevant meetings, hearings, and mark-ups and complete write-ups.
- Engage in advocacy efforts at state capitols, as required. This will include travel to, but not limited to Sacramento, CA and Atlanta, GA.
- Support execution of special events and programs at the HMG-DC Office that will enhance our image in Washington and build understanding and support for our issues.
- Complete other tasks as assigned by members of the team.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required, degree in Public Policy, or Public Affairs preferred.
- Familiarity with state government affairs, especially the legislative process, enabling effective communication on relevant issues.
- Strong analytical, organizational, prioritization, and project management skills.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Ability to multi-task and work quickly and efficiently.
- Positive, friendly disposition and excellent team player with outstanding interpersonal skills who can collaborate well with others.
- Experience with automotive manufacturer and/or auto dealer policy preferred.
- Experience in state legislative office preferred.
