To that end, we are seeking a manager to join our State Government Affairs (SGA) Industry team. The State Government Affairs Industry Team Manager will play a critical role in working with government and education leaders to advocate for policies and programs that advance digital transformation in support of Microsoft sales objectives.
SGA Industry team managers closely coordinate with Microsoft’s Health and Public Sector Industries (HPSI) sales organization, government customers, and government sales consultants to identify and pursue opportunities for governments to procure AI and cloud computing solutions. Industry team managers will also work closely with policy team stakeholders and their consultants who lead Microsoft’s engagement on a wide array of policy issues with governments leaders. In addition, Industry team managers will develop relationships with organizations that influence state and local government technology policymakers and develop analyses that help advise HPSI pursuits.
Responsibilities
- Promote Microsoft as a leader in providing software, services and solutions that help people and organizations achieve more.
- Work closely with public sector and education sales teams to create and close sales opportunities.
- Develop and maintain strategic relationships with state and local government customers and organizations that influence the direction of state and local government technology adoption.
- Educate stakeholders on the structure of state and local governments and their IT function, including structure, funding, and governance.
- Manage government sales consultants
- Propose and participate in the development of thought leadership materials that articulate Microsoft’s vision for enabling digital transformation in education, and state and local government.
- Ensure compliance of political activities with external laws and regulations and Microsoft Standards of Business Conduct.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, Political Science, Business Administration, Technology, Law, Liberal Arts, Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years work experience working at the confluence of government, technology, and advocacy or related area
- OR equivalent experience.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and collaborate with peers and managers
- Knowledge of government information technology (IT) concepts and technology policy as it pertains to procurement, governance, compliance, and budgeting
- Knowledge of government funding and appropriations process
- Experience serving in state or local government preferred
- Experience serving in an organization as a technology and/or data decisionmaker, advisor, or operations leader preferred
