This posting is for the State of Hawaii, Office of the Governor.

The position is located on Hawaii Island.

Salary: $5,834.00 to $6,250.00 per month.

Duties Summary

Participates in community activities and events on behalf of the Governor to include speaking and making presentations to local organizations as well as traveling throughout the county at regular intervals to keep abreast of local concerns and issues.

Meets with officials and representatives of local organizations to support and maintain positive relationships with community leaders, consul generals, and other important community offices.

Provides staffing support to the Governor and/or First Lady at meetings, conferences, and events. This support includes, but is not limited to, compiling materials, researching relevant issues, working with the Communications unit on developing talking points and informational binders, and providing on-site staff support at various gatherings.

Understands and, working with the Protocol unit, provides guidance regarding diplomatic etiquette, customs, and background of VIPs at meetings and events; assumes the responsibility of maintaining information and knowledge regarding code of conduct, exchanging of gifts, and other logistical issues regarding dignitaries during visits, meetings, and events.

Keeps the Governor's Office informed of the concerns and issues in their county through open communication with community leaders, and participating in various meetings, events, and programs.

Establishes and maintains working relationships with local media organizations and serves as liaison between them and the Communications unit of the Governor's Office.

Provides written reports, on a regular basis, to the Governor's Office regarding community specific issues and concerns, events and activities, as well as other office operational issues.

Communicates and facilitates information to and from the community as well as to and from the administration and state departments.

Manages tracking system of workflow regarding incoming email communication, telephone calls, and walk-in visits relating to casework.

Gathers and researches information on constituents' concerns/issues; refers select cases for action to appropriate department or agency; coordinates and/or collects information from various departments or agencies.

Guides and directs special projects/initiatives as well as other duties. Special projects and other duties assigned by the Governor, Deputy Chief of Staff, and Manager of Constituent Services.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

LEGAL AUTHORIZATION TO WORK REQUIREMENT: The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.


A. Knowledge: Strong knowledge of state government and various departments and agencies. Aware and knowledgeable of various community groups and organizations. Understands and operationalizes various office polices, practices, and procedures.

B. Skills/Abilities: Must be a problem solver and possess strong oral and written communication skills and able to read and comprehend a range of written materials, reports, and articles. Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of constituent groups in a tactful, pleasant, and professional manner. Able to effectively respond to constituents and direct individuals to appropriate resources. Able to demonstrate thoroughness and careful attention to details. Candidate is thorough, pays attention to detail, can multi-task, and work well under pressure. Able to exercise discretion and independent judgement in fulfillment of responsibilities.

C. Education: Bachelor's Degree

D. Experience: Demonstrated experience with community involvement and strong understanding of the legislative process and county, state, and federal government.

Other Information

This position is exempt from the civil service and considered temporary in nature. Therefore, if you are appointed to the position, your employment will be considered to be "at will," which means that you may be discharged from your employment at the prerogative of your department head or designee at any time.
