Overview

Come work for a non-profit organization committed to empowering consumers and communities to speed a just transition to a zero-carbon world!

Green Energy Consumers Alliance is searching for someone who is excited about our mission and would like to work in member & customer services and general administrative tasks. We have eight programs that enable people to make greener energy choices in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

The Program Associate is an entry level position, but some experience in customer service and/or data entry is a plus.

Customer Service

The Associate will assist with day-to-day customer service operations such as answering phone calls and doing data entry, with a special focus on our two membership-based programs.

The Heating Oil Service: Our non-profit heating oil buying group program has been saving Mass & RI residents energy and money since 1982. We have over 7,000 members who are getting a fair price on oil plus assistance to save more money by saving energy or switching to cleaner forms of heating, like heat pumps. Each year, our membership team assists thousands of members to renew and navigate the benefits of their memberships.

Green Powered: Our Green Powered program allows people to “make the switch” to green electricity. We buy renewable energy from local New England sources on their behalf. We also supply the residents of 35 MA & RI municipalities with more renewable energy than required by state law through “Green Municipal Aggregation” programs. Our members fund new sources of renewable power and reduce our need to burn fossil fuels for electricity. Our customer service team supports these members when they enroll, cancel, change, and inquire about their accounts.

Events

Our organization both organizes its own events to showcase the benefits of clean energy, and attends the events of partner organizations across MA & RI. The Associate would represent our organization at events through informational tabling, helping with set-up and breakdown, checking in attendees, working at stations, and other tasks as assigned. Events are often held at night and on weekends, and the Associate would be able to adjust their schedule to attend events once or twice per month (less in winter, more in spring).

Administrative

The busiest time for our customer service team is in the fall. When customer service is not demanding, the Associate will also help our Administrative staff. Tasks may include helping to document organizational procedures, tracking financial contributions, running administrative reports, and assisting our Administrative Coordinator as needed.

  • Entering data and performing administrative tasks accurately and with proper documentation.
  • Running reports as assigned.

  • Assisting with administrative procedure documentation and occasional research.
  • Other tasks as assigned.
