About the Role & Team

Be part of a dynamic team responsible for shaping the reputation of The Most Magical Place on Earth, Walt Disney World Resort. In this role, you will help develop creative communication strategies that proactively tell the story of our cast members, community, and company. We are looking for someone who will find unique ways to tell distinctly Disney stories through written and visual communication and bring innovative approaches to our work, staying current with recent trends.

Behind the Magic: The Senior Specialist, Communications and Public Affairs will report to the Senior Manager, Communications. In coordination with their leader, the Senior Specialist is responsible for developing strategic communication and creative content that effectively engages and inspires internal and external audiences, including our cast members and news media. As a member of the Public Affairs & Communications team, you will develop, execute, and maintain communications strategies and programs to drive excitement and engagement among our cast, community, and company, and work with news media to share stories about why Walt Disney World is a great place to work and play.

What You Will Do

  • Create and lead communication plans including collaborating with partners, message development/storytelling, overseeing asset creation, securing approvals, and developing related social media copy as needed
  • Develop story ideas, messaging, and creative content for multiple communication platforms including blog posts, website, social, and other owned digital platforms
  • Coordinate with internal partners to conduct research in support of communication planning
  • Maintain owned channels/platforms to ensure alignment with ongoing business priorities
  • Monitor and analyze communication activations to inform strategy
  • Assist in the creation of decks/presentations for executive leadership on Public Affairs priorities, projects, and campaigns
  • Nurture and maintain effective internal & external relationships with key collaborators, vendors, and other essential partners
  • Media relations support, inclusive of developing pitches and hosting media

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • 3+ years of communications experience
  • Experience managing teams with varied strengths by influence
  • Strong administrative, organization, and time management skills
  • Excellent writing and storytelling skills, presentation, and research skills, with an understanding of how to effectively communicate with different audiences
  • Experience leading projects and campaign initiatives with an understanding of overarching goals, objectives, and relevant considerations
  • Proficiency with Associated Press writing style
  • The ability and willingness to learn new software applications
  • Knowledge and experience with a variety of social media platforms/content creation
  • Trusted to maintain confidential information
  • Ability to complete multiple projects with competing priorities, and meet tight deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

  • Disney operational knowledge or experience
  • Passion for the Disney brand
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite
  • Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule as needed

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related field
