Position Overview

The Instructional Support Associate will work collaboratively and jointly with the classroom teacher, the Instructional Coach, the Assistant Principal of Instruction, and the Assistant Principal of Culture. He or she works as a colleague with classroom teachers to support student learning. The Instructional Support Associate’s (ISA) role will be to maintain discipline among students in a courteous but firm manner.

Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Assists the teacher by monitoring and supporting instructional and/or other classroom-based activities for students as prompted by an in-person or virtual teacher
  • Serves as an Instructional Support (substitute teacher) for up to an entire day of instruction or, at minimum, a class period
  • Assist classrooms by maintaining order and discipline
  • Assist with consistent, in-person reinforcement of appropriate
  • Monitors students in academic and non-academic classrooms and settings
  • Monitors students throughout the school day, including in the classroom, hallways, during lunch, and outside school events
  • Assist in arrival and departure routines of students attending in-person instruction
  • Takes attendance and search for students not in their assigned areas
  • Provides crisis prevention and intervention where appropriate
  • Maintains a controlled environment for students and staff in the school building and campus
  • Participates in Intensive Behavior Intervention staff development in-service training
  • Assist with the implementation of behavior management techniques (verbal) used with individuals with special needs.
  • Partner with the Assistant Principal of Culture and Culture Team in monitoring student behaviors and appropriateness
  • Participates in various meetings for the purpose of sharing information regarding student progress and opportunities

Qualifications

  • HS Diploma/GED (required)
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, subject-related field (preferred)
  • Three (3) or more years of teaching or classroom-based teaching experience
  • Experience in school-based behavior management and or crisis intervention
