Job Description
Primary Job Summary:
Under the general supervision and direction of the Chamber of Commerce Hawaii VP of Economic Development, Government & Community Relations, the Manager of Policy & Economic Initiatives will lead on research, drafting, and legislative updates for the Blueprint policy caucuses and Chamber members and departments. This role has a discretionary probation period of 3 months. Salary Range: $65K - $75K commiserate on experience.
As duties may change over time depending on the needs of the team, initially, it will include the following:
Policy & Research
- Conduct research, draft, and monitor policy priorities and programs that will address fundamental statewide issues of concern to all businesses with a focus on small businesses
- Identify relevant news articles, publications, op-eds, and membership-directed materials that would be impactful to utilize, include and/or implement for the 2030 Blueprint Hawaii
- Perform complex analysis of policies (with a focus on the economy), provide data and reports, and provide recommendations and advice in writing
- Ensure completion of assignments from Vice President and President in a timely manner
- Provides support and assistance for all Chamber events and initiatives, as needed.
2030 Blueprint Hawaii Duties
- Draft testimony, fact sheets, press releases, digests, and other documents to publicize the activities of the Chamber, Blueprint Caucuses and 2030 Blueprint Hawaii progress.
- Provide support to the Policy Caucuses as scheduling Caucus meetings, drafting agendas, facilitating as needed, note-taking, and research
- Provide regular updates on 2030 Blueprint Scorecard progress based on vetted data-driven results.
- Coordinate, analyze, interpret, and effectively communicate 2030 Blueprint reports on progress, committees, and data results, with members and the community.
Build on Statewide Partnerships
- Facilitate opportunities for Chamber 2030 Blueprint research to build on economic strategy
- Conduct research and analysis of issues, which includes but is not limited to, fact-finding, interviews, legal research, review of reports, and other pertinent data
- Assist in the drafting and preparation of testimony, memorandums, and other communications
Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Experience in legislative research, economic research, data collection, and state plan rollout
- Excellent writing and attention to detail, and strong communication and project management skills
- Highly adaptive, strong team player, and proven leadership ability and professionalism
- Ability to create a positive impression of the Chamber while responding to members, lawmakers, or other external entities either by telephone, email, video, or in-person
Other Requirements
- Primarily in-office position
- Valid driver’s license
- 4-year Higher Education degree (or evidence of aptitude)
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
