Overview


Americans For Prosperity is seeking a Policy Manager to supervise a team of Policy Fellows and Analysts in our pursuit of a freer society of equal rights and mutual benefit. As one of our Policy Managers, you will lead a team of experts across a range of topics and be responsible for ensuring that the expertise and knowledge to support the direction of our efforts is properly shared with a variety of internal stakeholders. It will entail the appropriate prioritization of opportunities to achieve our goals, the right allocation of staff resources, as well the tracking and reporting of efforts required. This position reports to Senior Vice President of Policy and coordinates with other Policy Managers and stakeholders to ensure the policy needs to execute on our strategies are met. Standout applicants may also bring federal or state policy experience.


Your Responsibilities Include


  • Lead a growing team of 4-7 Fellows and Analysts performing work across policy issue areas
  • Along with the relevant Policy Analyst or Fellow, provide the policy capability for the applicable issue area, by assisting in issue development and analysis
  • Coordinate and contribute to research and policy reports contributing to AFP’s understanding of critical issues
  • Advise, collaborate and connect across the policy team and our philanthropic community partners to develop strategies which advance our goals (including contributions to direct lobbying, grassroots, political, and messaging strategies)
  • Collaborate with stakeholders on the engagement and outcomes of policy efforts related to the portfolio, both on the Federal and State level, to provide philanthropic community partners with information on policy reform activity
  • Field requests from our state chapters and partners for issue information and analysis, particularly managing that information flow
  • Perform managerial duties related to the team of Analysts and Fellows, including the application Market Based Management.


Knowledge and Skills You Bring to the Organization


  • Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent relevant experience
  • 5+ years of experience with expertise on policy research and analysis
  • 3+ years demonstrated experience and interest in leading and supervising a team
  • Strong managerial and interpersonal skills
  • Strong writing and analytical skills
  • Strong oral communication skills, able to articulate vision to others and represent the philanthropic community in public forums
  • High level of initiative and ability to work independently and in a team setting
  • Ability to collaborate and connect across various teams for input and execution
  • Solid understanding of and passion for individual liberty and classical liberal philosophy
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and high sense of urgency
